Jason,
You might also try the Keyspan 230 Kbps USB adaptor.
It works well with an IBM Thinkpad R40 or T42P and a Teledyne RDI
RioGrande ADCP. Their URL is: www.keyspan.com
I sent this out the other day in response to Keith Ging's request for info
on pcmcia serial card adapters, but my grammar may have been so garbled in
the message noone understood it.
Phil

Jason/all
I have an Aten UC-232A USB/serial adapter.
Here's a link to the website: -
http://www.aten.com/products/productItem.php?pid=2005022316346005&psid=20050117102915002&pcid=20050107104554001
It seems pretty robust and has worked well for me so far!!
Cheers, Nick.

Re: [Acoustics] pcmcia serial card adapters
Hi Keith
Just a thought - could you use a USB/serial converter?
We have used these (admittedly not for this application) with some
success on several laptops that had no serial port. We have run TRDi's
WinRiver software through it with no problems.
I had a PCMCIA/serial card but it seemed a bit flimsy and I found the
USB device more convenient (and cheaper!!)
Cheers, Nick.
