We are using Quatech cards and looking into results, with one of the
computer I used, we sometimes saw delay problems within the GPS in
relation to the ADCP data. (An old Compaq Armada E500 which worked
great under most other demands.)

Subject: Re: [Acoustics] pcmcia serial card adapters
Hi Keith,
I was using a Socket PCMCIA Serial port card prior to getting a Windows
XP computer. This card didn't work reliably with XP. I did not some
searches on the WEB and saw many comments that Socket drivers were not
working reliably and Socket wasn't providing very good user support. As
a result, I decided to purchase a Quatech PCMCIA Serial port card (I got
a 2-port ruggedized card) and it has worked without problems. I have
used the 2-port card to input Garmin GPS NMEA strings and a digital
depth sounder.
Hope this helps,

We recently purchased a new Rugged Notebook M220 to use with our Sontek
Riversurveyor. It has only one serial port which seems to be the trend
these days. We usually plug our GPS receiver into a second serial port
to get more detailed data when working from a manned boat platform. We
would like to purchase a pcmcia serial card adapter for this laptop.
I thought I'd try to take advantage of everyone's experience with these.
With that in mind, can I get some recommendations on a reliable one?
What have been some pitfalls using these pcmcia cards?
Thanks,
