[Acoustics] INI2XML file conversion problems w/Streampro files

Emil,
I think the xml to .w file issue has something to do with computer
directory permission's where the files are located. I don't understand the
cause, but try putting the .xml files in a different directory before
converting them. Some people have said that placing the files in the
xml2ini program directory was a solution that worked for them.
Below are a few of comments that were previously posted on the acoustics
mailing list about converting the xml files to .w files, maybe they will
help:
"We've had the same problem here in the Massachusetts office, and finally
tracked it down. For us, the problem has been related to not having write
privs to certain directories. When XML2INI tries to execute the
conversion of .xml files to w.000 files, it tells us the conversion *was*
successful, when in fact the files were probably actually converted
properly, but they were not able to be written to the harddrive due to
write priv restrictions. When we log in as administrator, the w.000
files *are* written to the directory, and everything works properly."
"Lindsay, You need to run the INI2XML program to create the w.000 file
before you startup WinRiver in the office. The w.000 file from INI2XML
should contain the edge and transducer depth values. Make sure the
INI2XML program is located on your C: drive and not on the desktop. I
found out the hard way that if the program is on the desktop it will run
but none of the edge and transducer depth values will not be transferred
to the .w000 file. "
"If you load a StreamPro raw data file in WinRiver before you successfully
converting the .xml file to a *w.000 file, WinRiver will create a *w.001
that contains default settings for all values. If you later successfully
convert the .xml to *w.000 you still will not see the original transects
settings in WinRiver because the *w.001 configuration settings will
overwrite the *w.000 settings. If this happens delete the *w.001
configuration file and make sure that the *w.000 file exists before
loading the corresponding raw data file in WinRiver."

[Acoustics] INI2XML file conversion problems w/Streampro files
Has anyone else had problems converting StreamPro files using the INI2XML
software? We have used the StreamPro w/o problem since Mar. of 05, but
recently developed a problem processing the files for use with Winriver
Playback. We are not sure if this is a USGS Administrative rights issue or
something to do with the RDI software. A series of trouble shooting
sessions with the RDI service dept. has not solved our dilemma. Any
feedback would be appreciated.
