[Acoustics] StreamPro issue

We've had the same problem here in the Massachusetts office, and finally
tracked it down. For us, the problem has been related to not having write
privs to certain directories. When XML2INI tries to execute the
conversion of .xml files to w.000 files, it tells us the conversion *was*
successful, when in fact the files were probably actually converted
properly, but they were not able to be written to the harddrive due to
write priv restrictions. When we log in as administrator, the w.000
files *are* written to the directory, and everything works properly.

Thanks Mike!

hope this helps,
-Tim

Lindsay,

My guess is that you are having the following problem:
If you load a StreamPro raw data file in WinRiver before you successfully
converting the .xml file to a *w.000 file, WinRiver will create a *w.001
that contains default settings for all values. If you later successfully
convert the .xml to *w.000 you still will not see the original transects
settings in WinRiver because the *w.001 configuration settings will
overwrite the *w.000 settings. If this happens delete the *w.001
configuration file and make sure that the *w.000 file exists before
loading the corresponding raw data file in WinRiver.

I hope this is clear enough to help,

Mike

A few of us at the Anchorage field office have been using the StreamPro
quite a bit lately and have found that it doesn't always copy all of the
data from the configuration file over into WinRiver. I've seen the
profiler depth and edge estimates erased when .xml files are converted to
WinRiver, giving you different section discharges. If you re enter your
transducer depth and edge estimates into WinRiver it will compute the same
discharge that was recorded in the field. I have had several successfull
conversions to WinRiver with no problems so I am not sure when this
occurs. It may be a good idea to make sure your discharges match those
recorded in the field when using this program to convert StreamPro .xml
files to WinRiver.
