[Acoustics] Laser rangefinders - availability of a rangefinder cheaper and lighter than an Impulse- A followup and Test

Mark and others, I ended up purchasing 12 Opti-Logic 400XTA rangefinders
and tested their accuracy against a tagline. Using a reflective "Shoulder
Work Ahead" sign, all of the rangefinders were biased -5 to -7 feet when
tested at 100, 150, 200, and 250 feet. Using the reverse side of the sign
yielded distances that were within +/- 2 ft of the true distance. Same
results with a smooth concrete wall. It appears that a highly reflective
surface "fools" the rangefinder with the extra light.

Mark and others, Opti-logic has a new rangefinder, 400XTA, which has an
accuracy of 0.5 yards. The display can be set to read in ft. It's not yet
available from their distributors but you can order it directly from
Opti-Logic for $287.96. The phone# is 888/678-4564 and ask for Loretta.
The website is www.opti-logic.com.

Tim,
Try these. We have been using these for about 2 years and are very
reasonable.

Has anyone found a rangefinder that has +/- 1 ft accuracy and is lighter,
smaller and cheaper than an LaserTech Impulse 100? We use rangefinders
for ADCP and wading (<300 ft wide sections) measurements.
Thanks, Tim
