Gregory,
Here is a link to some pictures of how we mounted the SL's in our canals,
ftp://ftpext.usgs.gov/pub/er/il/urbana/adcp/Photos/ . The pictures were
taken during late winter/early spring when the canals were dry. We used 2"
aluminum conduit with various speed rail fittings from Hollaender. I have a
parts list if you're interested. I actually got this idea from some USGS
folks in Florida.
The velocities are never faster than 3 feet/second in our canals, so I'm
not sure how stable this setup would be in faster water.
It has worked well for us. Some of the sites have been in the water for 4
years and are still easy to pull up to service the equipment. These sites
are very close to the Gulf Coast (~20 miles from the beach) and tend to take
a lot of abuse from the weather because of this.

Hello,
I need to install a Sontek SL on a stilling well structure that can
be easily removed at higher flows. The stilling well structure is mounted
to the bridge peir with numerous steel brackets. I have the sontek
attached
to a 10 foot peice of uni-strut, and the uni-strut is protected by a peice
of heavy sign post, that is mounted to the stilling well supports. This
mount has worked well, but you can only remove the Sontek at low stages,
because the bolts that hold the uni-strut are under water. I would
appreciate any suggestions anyone might have, and if you have pictures of
the way your velocity meter is mounted, please send them.
Thanks,
