[Acoustics] bottom mode 7

John and others:

After reviewing the data file in question, I confirmed the normal behavior
of WinRiver and your Rio Grande in such a situation. If one sends a BM7
command and the profiler doesn't have bottom mode 7 available, the ADCP
should return an error. I believe that it will also prompt you as to
whether or not you want to proceed. If one then starts to make a
measurement, the default bottom mode in the profiler is used. This is
normally BM5 for Rio Grande ADCPs. In this case, although a BM7 command
was issued, the bottom mode used in the data collection was BM5.

In order to verify this, open WinRiver, open the file in question and play
it back. Hit F9 to bring up the Ensemble Header Tabular. This will show
you what bottom mode was actually used - even if your direct commands say
otherwise.
