[Acoustics] Bin Sizes

Hi Paul,
The error will be very large at 1 cm bins. There are also serious
boundary issues that have to do with lag settings, etc. I would not go
any smaller than 10 cm bins.
Call me if you want more details... I did some extensive testing trying to
force a 1200 kHz ADCP in mode 12, albeit from a fixed platform... to get 1
cm/s accuracy in 1 cm bins, just to see if I could do it. It didn't work
very well, I had to average the data back to 10 cm bins to get anything
coherent. And I'm guessing you're using a moving boat... which would be
even worse.
Dave Mueller may have some comments...
Cheers,
Marinna

Subject: [Acoustics] Bin Sizes
Hi,
Does anyone have information on the amount of increased error with smaller
bin sizes for mode 12 measurements? The config wizard selects 50cm bins
for mode12RB, and 25cm bins for mode 12SB. Since we are able to go down
to
1cm bins what kind of increased errors should be expected with smaller bin
sizes?
Thanks for you reply
