Hi You all,

my name's Roberto DInale and I'm an italian new member of the USGS
acousting mailing list, I work for the Met Office of South Tyrol, a
small corner in the very north of Italy. This region is placed in the
Upper Adige river basin, a mountainous catchment in the Alps of about
7000 km2. At the moment we are going to buy an ADCP measurement system
to be used on our major rivers. This are quite small one and not so big
as the rivers were the most experimentation of such of measurement
systems has been made in the US. I'm looking for instruments to use on
rivers with water depths of 0-6 m (mean 2 m), section brightness of
0-100 m (mean 40 m) water speeds of 0-5 m/s (mean 1,5 m/s) discharges
of 0-1000 m3/s (mean 50-150 m3/s). The products I think are the best for
my case are

a) Rio Grande1200 kHz ZedHed (+ Riverboat trimaran) of the RD
Instruments with new mode 12 even for bottom tracking
b) RiverCat 1500/3000 kHz (MiniADP + trimaran) of Sontek

We had 2 demostrations of the RD Instrumensc system with very good
results even by the confrontation with current meters measurements.
Unfortunately we had no demonstration of the Sontek system. For this
reason I'm asking if someone can help me giving me some other
information about this instruments, maybe suggesting me wich are the
characteristics why to choose the Rio Grande or the RiverCat and not the
another one.

I hope someone has time to give me some suggestion
thank You very much

Roberto
