[Acoustics] Unidata Ultrasonic Doppler

Hello Joseph,

Is your Unidata Starflow a B or C model? The B model is extremely
unreliable for reversing flow situations, and the minimum threshold
velocity that I could measure in a flume was about 0.2 feet per second.

Apparently the C model has been improved and now reliably handles upstream
and downstream flows (manufacturer rep comments). I suspect the minimum
velocity is still about the same because of the way the Starflows measure
velocity.

Luka Stravs of the Environmental Agency of Republic of Slovenia has done a
lot more work with the Starflows than I have, and has good success using
them. Perhaps he could give some advice?

Good luck,

Victor Levesque

Anyone using (or had used) a Unidata Ultrasonic Doppler Instrument
Model 6526 for a index velocity station sensor? Would like your comments
for an installation in a salt pond outlet...thanks..joe
