The USGS Office of Surface Water (OSW) continues to objectively evaluate
the accuracy and limitations of various acoustic Doppler instruments.
However, evaluating all instruments in a full range of field conditions is
a difficult and time consuming task. Many users of hydroacoustic
instruments collect limited QA/QC data to justify use of the equipment
within a particular agency or office and are willing to make an extra
measurement to improve QA/QC. These data could be very useful to the OSW.
Recently developed test plans for the SonTek FlowTracker and RiverSurveyor
and the RD Instruments Rio Grande have been posted at: http://hydroacoustics.usgs.gov/policy/index.html
The OSW encourages users to collect data consistent with the procedures
documented in these test plans. Instructions for transmitting the data to
the OSW are included in each of the plans.
